AS a nine–season veteran, Falls Creek snowboard instructor Beej Humphrys has spent countless hours on the slopes.
With Falls Creek experiencing the best start to a season in 22 years, Beej shares his tips, tricks and secrets about how to have an epic snow holiday this season.
How did you get into snowborad instructing?
I was a construction worker and while the money was great, I decided that it wasn't what I wanted to do.
So, I decided that the next best thing was to return to the snow and do what I love... snowboarding.
You must know the slopes of Falls Creek really well! What are your favourite beginner slopes?
Being a snowboarder it would have to be Drovers Dream.
It has great beginner terrain and also fantastic views of Rocky Valley Dam as you're skiing or riding down to the bottom of the chair.
And for skiers or boarders looking for something a little more challenging?
Summit would have to be one of my favourite areas on the mountain.
While there are quite a few advanced areas there are still some intermediate runs hidden throughout the bowl area.
For people who are visiting the snow for the first time, what is the number one tip you'd offer them?
Pack decent clothing and layers!
Make sure you have some good goggles, gloves, jacket, pants and a neck buff.
Quality gear can really make a difference – try to avoid wearing cotton.
Falls Creek seems to be the perfect family destination. How could families make sure they make the most of their holiday?
Take advantage of all the great restaurants and activities we have on offer here.
While it's a fantastic place to ski and snowboard there is so much more to do around the village and resort.
Let's talk food –, with so many great places to dine at Falls Creek, where is your favourite?
Where to start...there are so many great options in and around Falls Creek village – Bob Sugar, Milch, Chophouse to name a few.
Lastly, what would your three top tips be to have an epic snow holiday?
1. Try to book in some lessons to help with your skiing or boarding.
2. Take it easy. While it's great to be out on the slopes every day, some days it's also good to have a break.
3. Have fun! After all you are on a holiday of a lifetime.
