Having a ball at Falls

FALLS Creek is looking forward to a bumper season, and if June has been anything to go by, it will be a cracker.

We saw over a metre of snow fall to create an excellent base and set up the resort for the rest of the season, and that was just in the first week.

The snow was so good that Falls Creek opened a week early, happily welcoming more than 12,700 guests back, after what has been a challenging past two years for everyone.

Stuart Smythe, chief executive officer of Falls Creek Resort Management, said the resort had enjoyed a tremendous opening weekend.

"The record snow depth, the record terrain available to guests, the businesses who've been able to activate fully to make the most of these conditions has been a real bonus after two years of disrupted operations," he said.

"We are just so excited to welcome back everyone to Australia's premier all season alpine resort.

"The season ahead will certainly go down as one for the record books".

There will be plenty at Falls Creek to keep everyone entertained this season.

Skiing and boarding across Victoria's largest area of ski resort terrain and into the ski–in ski–out village is an obvious one.

Snow shoeing is a great way to explore the quieter corners of the resort, and cross country skiing will get your lungs working hard, or if you take it slower the world class groomed runs will take you around the lake to explore the beautiful alpine scenery.

For those looking to go a bit further afield, a guided tour with Falls Creek Guides will take you to terrain you didn't know existed so close to the resort.

But if hiking isn't your thing, grab a ride with Backcountry Tours, Australia's only ski and board tours taking you out on snowmobiles to access untracked slopes far from other skiers.

And then if skiing down isn't your thing, Falls Creek Snowmobile Tours will take you out, up and down the surrounding terrain on an exciting trip you won't forget.

Alpine Helicopters will get your heart racing over the Bogong High Plains with scenic tours, or you can heli–hop to Hotham or Perisher and make the most of your Epic pass.

Pete the Snow Dragon will be making weekly appearances at Twilight Tuesday where everyone in the family can enjoy roasting marshmallows over the fire pits, and dancing and kids' activities.

Join in at the Village Bowl every week from 3:30 to 5:30pm for the 'Street Party', with activities for kids and adults alike.

The Village Bowls also hosts Fireworks Fiesta on a Thursday, which thrills the little ones (and big ones) with a fantastic display of colour in the sky.

Watch the moon rise as you night ski on a Thursday and Saturday night and finish your runs down at the new Powder Keg bar.

The major attraction this year will be the Festival of Lights.

Come and explore the trail of laser light shows and installations winding through the village to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Falls Creek Village.

Light sculptures and colours will light up our magic village, taking you to parts of the village you may never have seen.

Dining choices may feel overwhelming for the foodies visiting Falls Creek, with so many exceptional restaurants and bars to choose from.

Don't stress yourself, just plan to try them all.

And if time doesn't allow for this, use the resort's handy What's on Guide for weekly top picks.
