DINNER Plain's reputation as a dog–friendly village will be bolstered this month with two of its main four–legged activities up and running in August.

You might think of sled dogs being something you'd more expect to see in winter in the Northern Hemisphere, but Dinner Plain has a thriving scene for this fast–paced alpine activity.

Howling Husky Sled Dog Tours is one such example, basing its main operations from the main area of the alpine village.

With snow levels picking up on the Dinner Plain trails, the huskies are in full flight once more!

Howling Huskies operate teams of up to eight dogs and take visitors on a unique tour through the snowgum forests that are native to the area.

For those more comfortable viewing rather than participating, the Sled Dog Sprint is due to return this August after false starts in 2020 and 2021.

Head to Dinner Plain for the August 13–14 spectacle and get ready to be immersed in the world of competitive sled dog racing!

These teams are trained to tackle the course at full pace and offers a great spectacle for the expected 1000 participants and spectators.

After a flying start (opening the season early), Dinner Plain has been gradually building its snow base with some well–applied snowmaking and natural snow.

Now in full operation, the 3000 bed village is offering skiing and snowboarding daily via its poma surface lift, and starting two hour beginner lessons on weekends.

Combine this with free tobogganing on Peashooter slope, plus afternoon super sessions each weekend on Cobungra Platter – Australia's largest toboggan slope – Dinner Plain has put together an unmatched offering for this season's family all–rounder mountain.

Some limited accommodation remains for the rest of peak season but there is plenty of opportunity to come and enjoy this all in spring, including the September school holidays.
