BRIGHT P–12 College is running its Dinner Plain campus at the village's community centre for students who've relocated to Mount Hotham or Dinner Plain over winter.

Bright P–12 College principal Jean Olley said the Dinner Plain campus is allowing families to work and live in the snow without driving up and down the mountain daily.

The campus is opened to primary aged students from across the country, with student numbers capped at 80 per season.

With the size of the building and class numbers, the school operates over two shifts, allowing the students to have a whole day of learning in four hours, then allowing students a day in the snow.

"The environment that Dinner Plain campus is set in is a stark contrast to many schools, as we are often surrounded by snow and set among the snow gums," said Ms Olley.

"Students and teachers spend a lot of time in the outdoor environment, dressed in snow jackets and pants, beanies, gloves and occasionally goggles.

"On Thursdays, our students participate in a cross country skiing program where they learn the basics of the sport before touring around the Dinner Plain trails."
