Enjoy some time at 'the cellar'

OWNER of La Cantina winery in the King Valley, Gino Corsini turned 90 on May 15.

From Bagni di Lucca in Italy, Gino called many places home before he settled in the King Valley.

In 1980 Gino and son Peter planted the first lot of vines on their property.

Some grapes were sold, with the rest kept by Gino to continue his family tradition of making his own wine for family and friends in the traditional methods passed down through the generations with no preservatives added.

In 1995, Gino and his wife, Carmel began labelling their wine La Cantina, meaning 'The Cellar' in Italian and their cellar door was built two years later in a traditional Tuscan–style building made from stone.

To celebrate Gino's milestone birthday they hosted a party with close friends and family at the cellar door with family members travelling from places across Australia such as Brisbane, far Queensland, Sydney, Melbourne and locally for the party.

La Cantina is one of only a few wineries in Australia which produces all their wines with no preservatives added, retaining the full characteristics of each grape variety.

Their wines are also vegan friendly and you can choose from Tempranillo, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Pinot Grigio, Merlot and Saperavi, which is a Russian red varietal, and sparkling Chardonnay.

So call into La Cantina winery today and sample the fruits of Gino's labours.
