Mountains of snow to enjoy

MORE lifts will be rolling, and more terrain open this weekend at Mt Hotham and Falls Creek alpine resorts, as they prepare to welcome thousands of visitors to celebrate arguably their best Queen's Birthday weekend in more than 20 years.

Snowfalls throughout this week have already taken both resorts' snow depth to around one metre, and more snow and below freezing temperatures are forecast today, tomorrow and Sunday, with Monday expected to have clearing skies.

Terrain in the resorts, as well as cross country trails, promise plenty of fun, while there will also be heaps of apres ski highlights off the slopes too, with mountain bars and restaurants ready to serve up the hospitality.

Mt Hotham will have fireworks, cross country lessons, ski and snowshoeing tours as well as the sunset snowshoeing experience on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Just up the road Dinner Plain Village is also planning for big celebrations, headlined by its traditional Season Opening Snow Dance – featuring music and fireworks on Saturday night.

Tobogganing on Australia's longest toboggan run, cross country skiing and plenty of snow play can be enjoyed in the village.

Mt Buffalo is also open with toboggan runs, cross country skiing and snow play ready to be enjoyed by the whole family.

Anyone visiting the mountains must carry snow chains.
