Hotham hounds

THERE are two types of dog in the world.

Ones that hate the snow, and ones that just LOVE it!

You will quite readily recognise dogs that love snow.

They roll, leap, lay and generally frolic in amongst the white icy goodness with an unfettered joy that can only bring a smile to one's face.

When walking or skiing the village trails around Hotham Heights and the Davenport lodges you may chance upon a dog or two.

Fear not, for they are friendly beasts, all snow–lovers like you, and all keen on getting some good scruffling and play with passers–by (of course ask the owner first!).

As with all things, having a dog in the ski resort during winter does come with rules.

Any resident dogs need to be registered with the Mt Hotham Resort Management Board (RMB).

Generally, permits that are valid in winter only apply to: year–round residents or employees of a business at the Mount Hotham Alpine Resort; property owners of a property located within the resort; or business owners of a business located within the resort.

Of course you can always apply for an exemption based on the merits of your case.

Other rules apply and for more information you should read the full dog policy on the Mt Hotham RMB website.

Here are a few photos of the Hotham Hounds sighted this winter enjoying the sun and snow.

Sammy, Sophie, Snoop (Dog), Bear, Lenny, Cindy and Koda are all adorable and whilst they don't necessarily know the rules, they do genuinely love being in the snow with their humans, reminding guests of their own hounds waiting patiently for them to return home.
