Holiday fun, on and off the slopes, at Hotham

SCHOOL holidays will be busy at Hotham, with advance bookings ensuring the resort will be full of people keen to make happy family memories.

With the best early snow cover in decades, and most of the skiable areas and lifts open, there will be heaps of fun to have on the slopes during the day.

Some other things you may want to consider though are:

• night skiing and boarding running every Wednesday and Saturday (weather permitting);

• First Tracks for those who are keen enough to get out and about in Heavenly Valley at 7.30am;

• the toboggan run at Wire Plain (village bus stop 12) is fully operational for snowplay visitors – perfect for families; and

• cross country and snowshoeing activities are popular alternatives, especially Traverse Hotham's Village Traverse (full day snowshoe between Mt Hotham and Dinner Plain) and a new offering from Alpine Running – 12km return hikes out to Derrick's Hut.

Off the snow, enjoy great food, beverage and apres options all over the mountain; live music every week at the General from 9pm; and the DWA fundraising chillout sessions every Saturday from 3:30pm at the Chill Bar.

The Hotham Alpine Base at Whiskey Flat is now open and can be booked for community activities.

This beautiful building, designed in the shape of a Bogong Moth, provides community space, changing rooms and toilets, as well as basic kitchen facilities to provide catering options for groups and events.
